Greenhouse E-Boy

Rich has always been our kid who loves technology. He is a self-proclaimed E-boy and lives up to that name. If it has to do with technology, he wants it, knows about it, or wants to know more about it. Although technology is great, his dad and I have always strived for him to be active in the outdoors and love nature.

Last year we were encouraging Rich to try a new sport. He’s tried baseball and soccer, but they didn’t seem to be his ‘thing.’ The local recreation department was having basketball sign ups and we were trying to talk him into attempting it. Imagine our surprise when our E-Boy, who never wants to do anything remotely sweaty, explained to his dad that what he really wanted to do was grow stuff. Rett immediately went to work researching how we could make this wish happen.

The whole family spent countless hours building and painting a greenhouse for Rich to grow his crops. After building the greenhouse Rich decided he wanted raised beds. We built the beds from old lumber and started filling them with crops.

Rich bought some lettuce and his grandparents brought him a few other plants to grow. This is where our E-boy’s farm adventure began. R & M Small Farms has always been the goal for Rett and I, but the greenhouse and hopefully soon-to-be farmers market are Rich’s goals. And he’s working hard daily to make sure it happens.
